Matsutake are a rare kind of mushroom that grow in some of the mountains in this area. Apparently the most expensive mushroom in Japan, they can sometimes cost up to $1000. The ones we saw at the local farmer’s market were closer to $100.

Is it because they are considered to be aphrodisiac? or they have less trivial
(and more well-known) effects on one’s body? judging from the looks, the former
is closer to the truth … š
